Category Archives: my artwork

This is an image of my most recent artwork. The assignment was to emulate a Master’s artwork; I chose Salvador Dali’s Girl of Ampurda.

I chose to make some changes from the original and I am very pleased with what the final drawing/painting looks like.

So here is the deal: I have a project due on Wednesday and I am running into some technical difficulties–I’ve never truly used watercolor and I have a feeling I should stop trying and just go with something else.Jake Bialos

My hope was to create an image with the feel of what Jake Bialos has depicted (see the good painting of woman standing) using ink and watercolor.

So I set about sketching my drawing, I inked over the outline and then I started with the watercolor… that’s when the problems began. See below for visual (look at my Picasa gallery for larger photos).

Full Body (full figure) Close Up (close up of right leg)

Well, the question now is… should I a) keep learning how to watercolor or should I b) use oil pastels (I do know how to use).

Allow me to do the pros and cons: Pros for option a) there is a slight chance I could achieve the look of Bialos. Cons for option a) that chance is very slim, I’m not sure if the paper will just wilt, etc. Pros for option b) the chance of a beautiful drawing is much greater, I know how to work oil pastels, perhaps less time consuming. Cons for option b) it would not be the look I was going for… of ink and watercolor.

There: does anyone have anything productive to suggest? I love all the feedback I can get.
